Irrespective of the types of drugs that you have been abusing and struggling with, a partial hospitalization/day treatment program might prove to be the right type of addiction recovery program for you.
Also known as day treatment programs, partial hospitalization programs are addiction treatment programs that offer a high quality and level of care than you would find at a typical outpatient program. However, it will still allow you to go back home - or check into a sober or transitional living facility - in the evenings after you have received treatment.
The important thing to keep in mind is that this type of program will offer you the same type of intensive treatment and daily structure that you can find in a residential or an inpatient treatment program. However, you will still be receiving this treatment while enrolled in an outpatient facility. This means that you only need to meet at the center for anywhere between 4 and 6 hours every day - for about 5 days every week.
You might either step down or transfer to a partial hospitalization/day treatment program after having been through an inpatient treatment program or make a step up from a less intensive regular or standard outpatient treatment program. In other situations, you may just enroll in the partial hospitalization program as your first entry into an addiction recovery program.
A partial hospitalization/day treatment program is a hospital based type of outpatient addiction treatment program. It will offer you the same services that you would be able to find at any residential or inpatient program. This means that you can even get access to any mental health services that you may need.
However, the program will not require you to stay at the facility around the clock. Instead, you can check into the center for a few hours every for several days each week. The important thing to keep in mind is that the program will be tailored in such a way that it can meet your needs and requirements for long term recovery.
According to ASAM - the American Society of Addiction Medicine - this type of program should provide a minimum of 20 hours of treatment every week. This makes partial hospitalization different from intensive outpatient programs (or IOPs) in the sense that you can expect to spend more time in a PHP than in an IOP. Further, PHPs will also be able to offer both psychiatric and medical services, which might not always be the case with IOPs.
While enrolled in a partial hospitalization/day treatment program, you can expect to go for treatment about 5 days every week - although this could go up to every day of the week. The duration of the program will also vary widely based on your individual requirements and needs. However, you may end up spending anywhere between 14 and 21 days in such a program.
A partial hospitalization/day treatment program in Alaska can be the ideal starting point on the road to recovery from substance abuse and addiction. However, it can also come after you have gone through either regular outpatient or inpatient addiction treatment.
