Differential Response in Child Welfare

The focus of this webinar was on Differential Response (DR) and the links between DR and system of care implementation. The webinar included a PowerPoint presentation by Amy Rohm, MSW, Child Welfare Program Specialist at the American Humane Association, and examples from several communities that have integrated Differential Response into their system of care efforts.

Parent/Family Partners and Improving Outcomes in Child Welfare, Part I

This Webinar explored the impact of Parent/Family Partners on improving outcomes in Child Welfare.  Frances Purdy, Director of the Parent Support Initiative for the Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health provided an introduction and brief overview of parent/family partners, followed by presentations from programs in Contra Costa, California and Baltimore, Maryland. Panel members provided an overview of their programs, including a description of the specific role of the parent/family partner, information on how their programs were developed and funded, specific implementation issues, and outcomes that have been achieved.

This Webinar was a follow up to the March 2011 Community of Practice Webinar. The focus of this Webinar was on implementation and sustainability of Parent/Family Partner Programs specifically in the area of Child Welfare.  The panel presentation featured Ruth Taylor from Morrison Child and Family Services in Oregon and Judi Knittel and David Mason from Contra Costa, CA, as well as David Mason from Contra Costa representing the parent voice. Ruth, Judi, and David each provided strategies on recruiting, retaining, and funding parent/family partners.

Wraparound, Team Decision Making, Family Group Conferencing – How are they the same, how are they different?

This first Child Welfare Community of Practice conference call featured Eileen Mary Grealish, M.Ed., a recognized leader and pioneer in wraparound and the president of Community Partners, Inc., who introduced the topic and made a brief presentation on the common foundational values of each of these modalities. This was followed by a presentation from Susie Barrios on implementation and practice issues. Susie is on the faculty of Portland State University School of Social Work at the Center for Child and Family Improvement and the Child Welfare Partnership.  Susie is currently a full time trainer for the statewide roll out of wraparound in Oregon.
